22 November 2014 to 19 April 2015
Towards the end of the project ‘1914 – In the Middle of Europe’, initiated by the Rhineland Regional Council (LVR), the Kölnisches Stadtmuseum (Cologne City Museum), the Cologne Museum of Applied Arts (MAKK) and the Stiftung Rheinisch-Westfälisches Wirtschaftsarchiv zu Köln are presenting a joint exhibition. The focus is on Cologne, the Rhineland metropolis, on the eve of World War I. The exhibitions at the MAKK and the City Museum complement each other to present an overall picture of Cologne around 1914, with each exhibition having a different focus: the MAKK will show the artistic and cultural trends characteristic of the time and of Cologne society, while the City Museum concentrates on the city’s economic situation and infrastructure and on the everyday life of Cologne citizens in the year that saw the beginning of the war.
